WHY YOU SHOULD HELP
My personal journey has been marked by immense challenges and triumphs. Experiencing homelessness firsthand, I faced multiple evictions and lived under the constant threat of losing my home. In a society where the term “eviction” has become all too common, one might wonder if we are emerging victorious in this struggle. Although we haven't yet conquered eviction, we’ve indeed become a formidable opponent.
In addition to economic hardships, my health has been tested repeatedly. In 2006, I battled thyroid cancer. Ten years later, in 2016, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer and experienced congestive heart failure. Just last year, I suffered a stroke that left me paralyzed on my right side, unable to walk, talk, or use my arms. Through sheer determination and resilience, I am now 80% recovered. I have regained the ability to walk independently and my mind and memory remain sharp, enabling me to communicate effectively.
Despite these trials, I remain committed to helping others whenever possible. I delight in donning my Mrs. Claus outfit each Christmas, even with my right arm functioning at only 40%. My passion for spreading joy and alleviating burdens fuels my work during this cherished holiday.
With the economic pressures many parents face today, choosing between essentials such as rent, medication, and gifts can be daunting. To ease this struggle, we have initiated "Operation Holiday."
1. Toy Giveaway Event: Attendees join by securing limited tickets on Eventbrite. This day of generosity features not only gift distribution but also exciting arts and crafts, letters to Santa, photos with Santa, DJ-entertained games, face painting, haircuts, cotton candy, and free food.
2. Home for the Holidays: Up to 100 families can share their stories of need to receive assistance from us. This program supports various demographics, including individuals, families, seniors, and those facing homelessness. Stories remain anonymous, with each participant assigned an ID. Stories are shared online for “adoptions,” allowing donors to support those whose stories resonate with them.
3. Secret Mrs. Claus: I make surprise visits to local stores like Shop-Rite and Walmart, where I joyfully cover the cost of unsuspecting shoppers' carts, spreading unexpected Christmas cheer.
Through these initiatives, I strive to make Christmas a less stressful, more joyous time for families in our community.
Won't you join me and spread the gift of joy to families? You can donate directly from here, or adopt a family -- either way, your help matters.
